DOES SIZE REALLY MATTER?

Take a look at golf driver's today. They are HUGE!!! After taking a 6 year hiatus from golf and returning this past summer I noticed a BIG change quickly: The size of driver's. My god these things are humongous now.

I took out my ol' trustee 320cc Taylor Made (which was the biggest by far in it's day) to tee up my first ball and the walk on I was playing with took out what seemed to look like my pit bulls head directly attached to his driver shaft. I actually asked him if that thing was legal! I played the whole round with my driver, hitting the ball anywhere from 250-300 yards on a great strike. My personal best with this driver was around 325-330 yards back in my hay day but the years have caught up with me and so has technology apparently! I asked the guy I was playing with if I could try his driver for one hole and he said sure.

Well. I mishit the drive and it went a mere. 300 YARDS!!! My god this whole thing was a sweet spot. After that round my friend gave me this Cleveland 460cc driver that came with his "set" for free and I've been bombing the ball ever since. I can't imagine what it would be like to own one of those $400 new Taylor Made R11's stiff shaft 9.5 degrees (if any Taylor Made reps are reading my plea for distance)! That being said what do you guys/gals think of this new golf technology? Is it necessary or is it mostly mental? Does anyone have any old/new driver's they'd like to donate to me?
