PLAYING GOLF IN THE WINTER

I live on the east coast...specifically, New York. During the winter months (Late November - February) it is not that feasible to play golf outdoors. As a matter of fact, sometimes it isn't possible at all to play outdoors golf even if you can bare the weather because the golf course themselves are closed. For people in business and people in general who would like to practice or even play golf during the winter there are several ways to do so...

Around me there are various choices for practice during the winter time. We have a few "heated" driving ranges and the hours they operate are actually pretty nice as well. If you do a quick google search on driving ranges around your area and call them up they will be able to tell you if they're heated or not and the hours. If you want to actually play a "round of golf" than your options are somewhat less vast. In recent years several places have began offering "virtual" rounds of golf. There are clubs that you can actually join where you can schedule a tee time much like real golf and then go play in a foursome with a group of business associates or buddies while eating lunch and sitting on some nice comfortable couches in between shots! Technology is really an amazing thing because I have found that for the most part, besides actually having to hit out of sand or deep rough or driving through the woods to look for my ball, the machines are pretty darn accurate. There are websites that also offer interactive lessons to people who don't want to leave the comfort of their own home. As technology progresses so do the options to play golf in the winter on the east coast. Where do you practice and/or play during the winter months? I'd love to hear...or read rather!

I live in the No East PA area. Which is apx 1.5 hrs from midtown NYC. The Lehigh Valley seemd to be about 5-10 warmer than the rest of the North East NY area. The courses have been open entire winter season. Hope this helps, Rodney

There are open golf courses, actually, in NJ; it all comes down to your pain level regarding your hands in the cold or you tolerability of non-grip-feel with thick winter gloves...

For those with resources the best option is to travel to the south and play golf for the winter. I personally don't enjoy golf when the weather is below 50. I know many people who will play in the 30's. I even see some wearing hat and gloves to play. I think it's a bit crazy, but to each their own.
