THE BUSINESS END OF GOLF

There aren't many activities where you can both play a sport and do business at the same time. As a matter of fact...the only real sport you can play and talk about business together at the same time is golf. You can't just ask 5 people who you're interested in conducting business with to come down to your gym and play a game of 3 on 3 pick up basktball...nor can you ask 1 person to come down to your gym and play racquetball while simultaneously talking business.

However, golf is different. Golf is not the most physically grueling sport there is which is actually a perfect example of why you can do business on the golf course. You play a 4-5 hour round of golf and only around 5 minutes of that time is actually dedicated to being physically involved in the sport...Unless of course you're not very good at golf in which case you'll be spending most of your time going off roading in the woods, fishing in the lake or if you're lucky enough, hanging out on the beach! When you want to take a potential client out or even an associate you're already involved with, you learn a lot about a person's character out on the golf course. Do they cheat? Do they get angry when they hit a bad shot? Do they meticulously calculate every single shot for 5 minutes before hitting the ball? By observing all of these attributes, you can come to different conclusions about these very people you're playing with. Countless business deals have went down on the golf course and for good reason; it's a relaxing environment outdoors with the sun shining on people's faces bringing everybody to a better mood (albeit the guys who can't break 150)! So tell me...how do you guys use golf to better your business or make more business deals? Can anybody think of a better way to enjoy a wednesday afternoon?

I could not agree more. There is no better activity to get to know people than the game of golf. Golf is so much more about who you play with than where you play or even the conditions you play in. Of course it is better if everything is great, but if I had a choice to play at a great golf course with bad people or play golf at a bad place with good people, I would take the latter every day.
